I find the pinning down of this date to be a non-issue. Truth is, any and every day can be the last one for us, we don't know how and when we're going to die, our next waking moment will be (hopefully) rising up in the air to meet the King of kings.
We are admonished to run the race Heb12:1. I remember in school being told to run my hardest when I saw the finish line; I have a hunch that if we knew the "finish line" wasn't until 2026 some of us might drop into a more leisurely jog or walk... :)
If studying for the timeline enhances your relationship with YHVH, by all means go for it. I would just caution that the weightier matters of the law not be overlooked!
Yehoshua said during His ministry on earth some 2000 years ago "The time has come to an end, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."
Paul reitereated years later "Rom 13:11 Know this also, that now is the time and the hour that we should awake from our sleep, for now our salvation is nearer than when we believed. Rom 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light."
I don't believe, in light of the verses above, that Yehoshua would have revealed the year of His return. If people had known back then it was going to be some 2000 years later, can you imagine what would have been the resulting attitude? Revelation 22 (6 and 7) place the time frame as soon. Daniel is told to seal up the book until 'the time'.
We should live every day as if it were our last, Yehoshua is never further away than the life span of each person. As to His return, we'll have a much clearer picture once the abomination of desolation is set up!
Just my 2 cents. :)
