Genesis 37:1 - 40:23

Amos 2:6 - 3:8

Vayeshev wt

This Parashah covers Joseph's coat and dreams followed by his brother's reaction and selling him into slavery and the story of Joseph's life of slavery. It also includes an interlude with the story of Judah and Tamar. This posting includes multiple years of Torah portions done by Wisdom in Torah.

In this portion we cover in depth connections of Yeshua in the life of Joseph as a prophetic picture of Yeshua's ministry, death, burial, resurrection, while we also focus on the cultural perspective of the time frame of our forefathers. Knowing the context of the culture will open our understanding to why we need to consider this angle of study. I pray that this portion will help us get a greater understanding for why the brothers removed the garments from Joseph and why does the text makes such emphasis on this event. Chapter 38 will help us get an insight on the what does Seals represented in the ancient near east and why it was so important for Judah to send for them in the episode with Tamar.

This page includes Torah Portions from multiple years covered by Wisdom in Torah. Each year we covered the Torah from a different perspective so you can explore each Parashah from a different perspective and focus.

  • 2010 Portions: Focus on Messianic connections in the Parashah
  • ANET Portions: Focus on the ancient Near Eastern cultural context of the Parashah
  • Mitzvot Portions: Focus on explaining and exploring the commandments found in the Parashah (in progress)
  • 2015 Portions: Revisiting the Parashah looking at the ancient cultural context more in depth with additional areas that have been researched
  • Brit Portions: Focus on connecting the Brit Hadashah (New Testament) to the Parashah

I am a teacher of Scriptures, Torah follower, and believer in Messiah Yeshua. I have been given the opportunity to share the Word of God with many believers around the world. My work as a servant of the Most High God has allowed me to be a voice to spread the good news of the New Testament, unveiling its truth through context and the obedience to the Almighty through his Torah.

Thank you both for your deligence in studying Torah!
I plead guilty! I cannot remember who I heard this from, possibly Joe G. But if it wasn’t I apologize.
It came up on his lesson that Mary was instruct d to go to her cousin Elizabeth’s house. Why? Could it be that because her husband was a Levite priest and that he performed the Numbers 5 ceremony? She certainly followed Torah, it wasn’t to show Joseph her husband of her innocence. He had already believed the angel. So this act would exonerate her to everyone else when her belly didn’t swell, etc. so as you say she started out at a high honor (virgin) she had to be publicly exposed and thereafter we see HaShem raising her to a more honorable position. She would be called blessed among women!
This teaching was very insightful! Thank you

  4. Thank you for doing so much reading and study to pass this information on to us. It brings so much clarity to things at a much deeper level and makes me eager to know our King more. You mentioned a teaching we could find at Lion and Lamb ministries called “Is Yeshua the True Messiah of Israel”. Is there anywhere else to get this teaching? I typed it in numerous ways and it does not come up. As I share with other people who may have questions, I wanted to have a good foundation of understanding Yeshua’s role and the more I can learn about this is helpful. Thank you so much.
