The 2012-13 Torah Portions in light of the Ancient Near East Customs and Context. We are going to be studying the Torah and focusing on the countries that surrounded Israel. By searching for context we will be able to have a better understanding of the ancient legal covenant and the conditions in which the ancient world understood covenants. In this portion we will see the patterns of Suzerain, Grant and Covenant Lawsuit being establish by YHVH in the opening of the book of Genesis. The ancient world did not invent anything, it was YHVH that created and set up the system of government and conditions of Covenant found in the Ancient Near East.

The 2014- 2015 cycle we will being laying the foundation for Genesis 1-3 being the establishment of YHWH's Macro-Temple in the Cosmos.
Remember that Moshe is shown the pattern of the Heavenly Temple for instructing on how to build the Earthly Tabernacle. We see evidence of this all though out the Bible, including the First Century Writings. With this being the case, I believe it is safe to say the we should be able to see that YHWH would show mankind the template of HIS Macro Temple in the Covenant Text prior to the pattern or microcosm of it extending to the Earth. My hope is that after seeing the evidence in this week's torah portion as well as the upcoming full series on the Macro-Temple of YHWH in the Cosmos, is that we will have a much clearer understanding of Scripture from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22 indeed being a Temple Text, a Text that is written in Temple Language.

The Brit Portion for this week's reading comes from the book of Revelation chapters 20-22 and we will be talking about the prophetic message of the restoration of Order from the cosmic chaos. A cosmological perspective to the creation story and how it develops in the Scriptures. Shabbat as the climax of the creation week and the same story is repeated in the book of Revelation chapters 20-22. Finally, Yah restores his kingdom, people, bring Shalom and establishes his Sovereignty, kingship and dominion over his creation by dwelling and Resting with us.

  1. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. The first teaching on Genesis was wonderful. I am so excited that you have decided to teach the Torah weekly. When you were teaching you mentioned the “Targum”, that is was 5 volumes and that you used it as a study aid. Can you tell us where we can obtain these volumes? Can you tell us of any other study aids that you use regularly?

Thank you again. May YHVH bless you for you willingness to share.

  2. Victor,
I have a MAC, when I try to download the fonts it says decompression failed. Can you help this computer illiterate? Downloaded the power points, but they look funny and not lined properly. Are there Hebrew letters in the power points, I only see English letters.

    Thanks.

  3. Hi Rico. If I may, can I offer a suggestion re the questions, “Where are you?” and “Where is your brother?” According to Dr Skip Moen (http://skipmoen.com) these are not questions about location (“where are you”) but questions of surprise i.e. “Why are you not where you’re supposed to be?” or “Why are you not here with me?”

Thanks for the teachings – great stuff.

    Shalom.

  4. Hi Rico,

Thank you so much for doing this. It is a blessing to be able to learn from someone who has such a love for the written Word.

Will the teaching remain up indefinitely or do we have only one week to watch it?

Also, it’s hard getting my whole family around my computer to watch. Do you have a suggestion for that? It would be much easier for us to watch on our tv.

Thank you again and may Abba bless you!

    1. Mara,

The teachings will be in the archive and viewable anytime.

We put up a poll to see what the members wanted, so from the looks of it, we will probably give video downloads a try. 🙂

  5. Awesome teachings on our first Torah Portion of B’Resheet. Such blessings have we received from Yahwey, as He opens our eyes wider and clears our ears so that we may hear and see our hidden Messiah revealed through these words.
Rico, saying a huge thankyou seems so insignificant for the pure gold nuggets that your heart is so willingly reveals to all of us. How truly blessed we all are to share these hours with you! May Yahwey bless you abundantly for giving of your heart and your time to give us revelation from the heart of our King. Thankyou.
