Deuteronomy 1:1-3:22

Isaiah 1:1-27

devarim WT

This portion is important retelling of the wondering in wilderness by the children of Israel. Also, I cover the concepts of Teshuvah in the explanation of the Haftarah of Consolation for the next 7 weeks before Yom Teruah. Understanding this principles will teach us as a Kingdom in the dispersion how to come together as one people, one heart, one mind, one consent. I pray this Torah Portion is a blessing to you and continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

We will deal with the legal aspects of the book of Deuteronomy. In this portion we will introduce the different sections of the book of Deuteronomy from a covenant perspective. Connecting the Biblical account with archaeological evidence from the Ancient Near East that puts Moses in a real timeline in History. This evidence will help us understand this book from a different viewpoint than previously studied.

This page includes Torah Portions from multiple years covered by Wisdom in Torah. Each year we covered the Torah from a different perspective so you can explore each Parashah from a different perspective and focus.

I am a teacher of Scriptures, Torah follower, and believer in Messiah Yeshua. I have been given the opportunity to share the Word of God with many believers around the world. My work as a servant of the Most High God has allowed me to be a voice to spread the good news of the New Testament, unveiling its truth through context and the obedience to the Almighty through his Torah.

  1. Shalom Rico
Why don’t you, Brad, Mark, Jim and others do some kind of Beit Din? In reality, I don’t know what dates to follow; it’s quite overwhelming for me actually. I’ve seen that Michael Rood along with Nehemiah Gordon has put quite a bit of work into the dates. But I can’t seem to find their calendar. I really want to know what date Sukkot starts so that I can give my job notice with enough time for the week of vacation that I have left before someone else asks for that week. Can you or ANYONE on this blog direct me to a calendar to follow? My e-mail is lgruiz7777@yahoo.com.mx -thanks and shalom

  2. I have the New Machzor/Machzor Chadash by Media Judaica, would this contain pretty much of the same prayers if not, all of them? Thank you, Rico!

    Shalom~

  3. The idea of the natural teaching the spiritual makes me wonder…with the “disconnect” that comes of industrialization and urbanization, how much do we miss?

  4. Brad Scott is a part of the two-house movement, a movement that is frequently anti-Semitic. I am Jewish and have had to deal with these types of people. Please be careful and look into their teachings very thoroughly.

Brad is a friend of mine and I also believe in the restoration of the houses of israel and I am of the line of Levi. I do understand that there are people in the Ephramite movement that have an anti-Jewish view on any tradition but I do not hold that position. I believe in all of Israel coming together and I know for a fact that Brad believes like me because He is one of my best friends. I do know what you mean and any organization that have an anti-jewish view I do not endorse. thanks

    2. Since you are Jewish, you must surely understand the laws of LaShon Hara. How does your comment line up with those laws? I don’t need to know; I ask you to reconsider your remarks. What proof can you present in a court of 3? if you have none; what will be your punishment?

  5. Good post Kate. While listening to the Torah portion that began Devarim,I realized too that the Hebrew word debar was in the title of the portion being read. I thought about the bees too and figured “I don’t know exactly how this all fits into the larger scheme of things, but there is a connection to bees/word(s),The Word, etc”. This is confirmation that you don’t have to be that “deep” to see The Torah in everyday living. Yahweh didn’t make things so hard to figure out,and yes,as Brad Scott says “WORDS do mean things”! That’s a whole nother study within itself. The Word is so deep that I don’t think we can learn all there is that Yahweh put into His written word in one single lifetime. I have always looked at things simplisticly at face value like the example you just gave and then built on what I believed I saw and understood at that time. With more knowledge of God’s word,I was able to apply His wisdom to correct any flaws in what I saw and get a firm foundation to build onto. Sometimes I was right, but other times I was WAY off. Yah is so smart yet He makes things so plain that even a young child can learn of His ways if exposed early-on and consistently. That’s the way we need to approach His word—as little children. When He sees that we can handle the milk is when He feeds us the meat. To you I say in my best French accent “bon appetite”. Sorry if I spelled this wrong, but I think you get my point. Shalom.

  6. I was just thinking about bees and pollination…bringing forth fruit…

As we are obedient to Torah, then Torah (the Words) brings forth fruit in our lives.

Bees make honey…we are told to “taste and see that the Lord is good”…we “taste” by studying and obeying His Law…

Just thinking out loud a bit.

    Shalom!

  7. Rico you mentioned that not many listened to the tabernacle teaching that was one of my favorites and I intend to listen to it again. Thank you so much for the mighty work you do

  8. I haven’t watched this yet and with my luck what I’m going to mention is in the teaching.

I read the Torah portion this evening and noticed something interesting in Chapter 1.

Deuteronomy 1:1 KJV These be the words (H1697) which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

Deuteronomy 1:44 KJV And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees (H1682) do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.

Now, I’m not the best at studying the Hebrew, but I remembered hearing someone, I think Brad Scott, mention that bee and Deborah were the same word. When I read chapter 1 tonight, it occurred to me that D’varim and the word for “bees” were probably related. So, according to e-sword:

    H1697 (vv. 1 above)
    דּבר
    dâbâr
    daw-bawr’
From H1696; a word; by implication a matter (as spoken of) of thing; adverbially a cause: – act, advice, affair, answer, X any such (thing), + because of, book, business, care, case, cause, certain rate, + chronicles, commandment, X commune (-ication), + concern [-ing], + confer, counsel, + dearth, decree, deed, X disease, due, duty, effect, + eloquent, errand, [evil favoured-] ness, + glory, + harm, hurt, + iniquity, + judgment, language, + lying, manner, matter, message, [no] thing, oracle, X ought, X parts, + pertaining, + please, portion, + power, promise, provision, purpose, question, rate, reason, report, request, X (as hast) said, sake, saying, sentence, + sign, + so, some [uncleanness], somewhat to say, + song, speech, X spoken, talk, task, + that, X there done, thing (concerning), thought, + thus, tidings, what [-soever], + wherewith, which, word, work.

    H1682 (vv. 44 above)
    דּברה דּבורה
    debôrâh debôrâh
    deb-o-raw’, deb-o-raw’
From H1696 (in the sense of orderly motion); the bee (from its systematic instincts): – bee.

And they both have the same root:

    H1696
    דּבר
    dâbar
    daw-bar’
A primitive root; perhaps properly to arrange; but used figuratively (of words) to speak; rarely (in a destructive sense) to subdue: – answer, appoint, bid, command, commune, declare, destroy, give, name, promise, pronounce, rehearse, say, speak, be spokesman, subdue, talk, teach, tell, think, use [entreaties], utter, X well, X work.

I was thinking about how bees might relate to the words Moshe spoke (hang with me here–my brain is dangerous). The Law is what we’ll be judged by. If you’re being chased by bees, your options are to either run in a zig-zag or get into a body of WATER. So, if we’re IN Yeshua who IS the Law, then He being the Living Water, He will “protect” us, so to speak. I know protect isn’t really the right word, but I can’t seem to think of what I want here. I’m not saying Yeshua keeps us from being judged, but like with the bees, the Water changes our situation. Well, I know somebody will get what I’m trying to say. My point is, there’s a lesson in this, and I’d bet the Amorites factor in somehow too.

    Shalom!
