I have a question about the information presented toward the beginning of this video about the calendar. If we are supposed to follow the word of God – the Torah – how can we follow the current “set calendar”? Doesn’t this remove much of the process? I understand that there are no priests on earth today. Except that He wanted a nation of priests…doesn’t that give us the right and mandate to rehearse these things – including watching the moon to determine the moedim? The other part of my question is this: how did Hillel II have the authority to declare the dates? He was not from the priestly line of Zadok – or Levi at all for that matter. Apparently he claimed to be from David – Judah. ???
