Leviticus 12:1 - 15:33

2 Kings 4:42 - 5:19, 7:3-20

tazria

This week's Torah Portion focuses on the laws associated with ritual impurity and how to cleanse one's self from such impurity. It is important to remember that even though a so-called 'sin' sacrifice is brought, it is not because the offerer committed a moral sin, but simply because of the prolonged impurity which brings defilement to YHVH's altar.

While many may shy away from this portion because of the graphic nature of some of the impurities, this portion actually contains within it a greater understanding of the work of Yeshua in how he restores fallen man from a state of living death to immortal life. I pray this portion is a blessing to you.

This page includes Torah Portions from multiple years covered by Wisdom in Torah. Each year we covered the Torah from a different perspective so you can explore each Parashah from a different perspective and focus.

  • 2010 Portions: Focus on Messianic connections in the Parashah
  • ANET Portions: Focus on the ancient Near Eastern cultural context of the Parashah
  • Mitzvot Portions: Focus on explaining and exploring the commandments found in the Parashah (in progress)
  • 2015 Portions: Revisiting the Parashah looking at the ancient cultural context more in depth with additional areas that have been researched
  • Brit Portions: Focus on connecting the Brit Hadashah (New Testament) to the Parashah

I am a teacher of Scriptures, Torah follower, and believer in Messiah Yeshua. I have been given the opportunity to share the Word of God with many believers around the world. My work as a servant of the Most High God has allowed me to be a voice to spread the good news of the New Testament, unveiling its truth through context and the obedience to the Almighty through his Torah.

  1. to Rico: I was hearing the Lepery lesson: birth time; could it be that the mother has to take 60’s days, could this be the simple of reading time of the 66 books of Bible?) The girl or woman is a simple of the bride. so to be clean and ready to be the bride could it be that we need to read and know all the 66 books in Bible? Just a thought. tell me what you think? This is a ?, that could be a comment.

  2. Hello Fellow Torah Students

I came across this in the Book of Jubilees concerning the laws of purification…
    (It is very interesting)

    Jubilees 3: 4-14
And the Lord said unto us: ‘It is not good that the man should be alone: let us make a helpmeet for him.’
And the Lord our God caused a deep sleep to fall upon him, and he slept, and He took for the woman one rib from amongst his ribs, and this rib was the origin of the woman from amongst his ribs, and He built up the flesh in its stead, and built the woman.
And He awaked Adam out of his sleep and on awaking he rose on the sixth day, and He brought her to him, and he knew her, and said unto her: ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called [my] wife; because she was taken from her husband.’
Therefore shall man and wife be one and therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.
In the first week was Adam created, and the rib -his wife: in the second week He showed her unto him: and for this reason the commandment was given to keep in their defilement, for a male seven days, and for a female twice seven days.
And after Adam had completed forty days in the land where he had been created, we brought him into the garden of Eden to till and keep it, but his wife they brought in on the eightieth day, and after this she entered into the garden of Eden.
And for this reason the commandment is written on the heavenly tablets in regard to her that gives birth: ‘if she bears a male, she shall remain in her uncleanness seven days according to the first week of days, and thirty and three days shall she remain in the blood of her purifying, and she shall not touch any hallowed thing, nor enter into the sanctuary, until she accomplishes these days which (are enjoined) in the case of a male child.
But in the case of a female child she shall remain in her uncleanness two weeks of days, according to the first two weeks, and sixty-six days in the blood of her purification, and they will be in all eighty days.’
And when she had completed these eighty days we brought her into the garden of Eden, for it is holier than all the earth besides and every tree that is planted in it is holy.
Therefore, there was ordained regarding her who bears a male or a female child the statute of those days that she should touch no hallowed thing, nor enter into the sanctuary until these days for the male or female child are accomplished.
This is the law and testimony which was written down for Israel, in order that they should observe (it) all the days.

  5. Great teaching Rav Rico…and “very interesting” :)…lol…Actually I have a question and a possible answer for something.
Question – The 1 leper that returned to thank Yeshua – which tribe does he represent and why?

Possible answer why days of purification are 80 for a girl and 40 for a boy – I am currently in Nursing School so I just happened to have a good reference book available. Concerning a newborn female, in utero she has an increase in estrogen during pregnancy from the mother. After birth, the baby girl experiences a drastic drop in the hormone which results in a mucoid vaginal discharge and even some slight bloody spotting known as pseudomenstruation (Perry, Hockenberry, Lowdermilk, & Wilson, 2010, p.618).

      1. I am studying to get my PhD in Homeopathic medicine and had read from an Israeli doctor report much of the same idea. That the female baby produces so much more hormone than the boy and it takes that much longer for cleansing for a mother to get her system back to regular. Often a mother who has a girl will experience more issues with hair loss, extreme fatigue, diabetic like eating responses and other hormonal related “abnormalities” which really are “normalities”– just the way that God has designed women to return into their normal state of hormone in their own body. Boys do not have this and hence it is half.
LOVE LOVE LOVE how God is the author. Science can’t explain it but Yah’s word prevails once again! HalleluYah!

    1. Yes thank you as I was studying this part of the portion I did not understand why, but praise YAH I knew there was a reason….it is so good to trust in Him He is unfailingly trustworthy!

  6. Shalom Rico,
Just had my youngest one listen to your TORAH portion Shemini Leviticus 9-13. She was as I was fascinated on your teaching. I was surprised that she listened to the whole portion. A credit to your great teaching abilities. Thank you for all that you do. May our father keep blessing you in his work. We were fortunate to meet you at Sukot last year at Lake Cowbell. Great to talk to you over a campfire.

  7. Yes Rico, that is indeed one of the signs that the leaders were looking for to identify the Messiah, that he would be one who would heal a leper. No Israelite ever was healed when that mitzva was given, so you are correct there. Another sign they looked for was for the Messiah to cast out a spirit that made a person unable to speak. This is because, according to their procedure, in order to cast out a demon, they had to ascertain the name. Since they could not do this with someone with a spirit of muteness, they could not cast this type out. But they believed Messiah would be able to. And once again, he does this very thing. They surely knew who he was and yet, according to His purposes, had him put to death.

Thank you for all you do, my brother,

    Ron

  8. Shalom Rico,

Loved your Torah portion this week. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication.

Just heard a good teaching on Tazria :
“Does God Love Baby Girls” by Kimberly Rogers.
    http://themessianicmessage.com/torah_portions.htm
It’s about 19 minutes long. She gives a very good explanation why mothers, after having a baby girl, must go through 80 days of cleansing as opposed to 40 for a boy.

  9. Shalom Rico,

I have just signed up as a new member. Thank you for your teachings and sharing all that the LORD is giving you.

I can’t imagine that you would be able to answer all questions or comments… I was listening to your Torah teaching on Lev. 12 and 13 and I remember a teaching about the women having to offer sacrifice after child birth which spoke about her basically bringing a sinner into the world… it didn’t mention what words that she spoke while she was giving birth. Of course Miriam bearing YESHUA still had to do the ritual as she is unclean but He is without sin.
Also in your teaching you mentioned being clean before the LORD I guess you meant in the millennial Kingdom? Not eating pork and such… will we not be in our glorified bodies and be HOLY clean before the LORD?
Thank you for your time and thoughts
