The 2012-13 Torah Portions in light of the Ancient Near East Customs and Context. We are going to be studying the Torah and focusing on the countries that surrounded Israel. By searching for context we will be able to have a better understanding of the ancient legal covenant and the conditions in which the ancient world understood covenants. In this portion we will see the patterns of Suzerain, Grant and Covenant Lawsuit being establish by YHVH in the opening of the book of Genesis. The ancient world did not invent anything, it was YHVH that created and set up the system of government and conditions of Covenant found in the Ancient Near East.
The 2014- 2015 cycle we will being laying the foundation for Genesis 1-3 being the establishment of YHWH's Macro-Temple in the Cosmos.
Remember that Moshe is shown the pattern of the Heavenly Temple for instructing on how to build the Earthly Tabernacle. We see evidence of this all though out the Bible, including the First Century Writings. With this being the case, I believe it is safe to say the we should be able to see that YHWH would show mankind the template of HIS Macro Temple in the Covenant Text prior to the pattern or microcosm of it extending to the Earth. My hope is that after seeing the evidence in this week's torah portion as well as the upcoming full series on the Macro-Temple of YHWH in the Cosmos, is that we will have a much clearer understanding of Scripture from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22 indeed being a Temple Text, a Text that is written in Temple Language.
The Brit Portion for this week's reading comes from the book of Revelation chapters 20-22 and we will be talking about the prophetic message of the restoration of Order from the cosmic chaos. A cosmological perspective to the creation story and how it develops in the Scriptures. Shabbat as the climax of the creation week and the same story is repeated in the book of Revelation chapters 20-22. Finally, Yah restores his kingdom, people, bring Shalom and establishes his Sovereignty, kingship and dominion over his creation by dwelling and Resting with us.

Thank you for all the time you put into these Torah portions. I appreciate your humor, your vulnerability …your teaching makes Torah exciting and relevant. I appreciate how you connect Torah to other portions of Scripure and the Brit Hadashah makes sense. Thank you for the “meat” of the word that you bring. I cannot express my gratitude enough. Blessings to you and your family!!
Awesome sewnolivette! Just beautiful – makes perfect sense.
You too Rica – keep the information coming!!
I have to share this concerning the prophecy found in Gen 3:15. It actually ties in with what Jeff Benner taught on in his video concerning this verse: http://youtu.be/SHKSzvsa6Xg and I didn’t put it all together till I was going through Tony Robinson’s parsha notes for Ki Teitzei: http://restorationoftorah.org/WeeklyParsha/MBMKiTeitzei.pdf
We are reminded in Ki Teitzei of what Amalek did back in Numbers, how as Tony states: “We see that Amalek used unethical standards in warfare because they attacked the weak stragglers, probably older people, women and children.” This hinder part of the Israelites could be called “the heel” in military terms. By the same token, Amalek and his army could likewise be called the “head.”
Just as God prophesied in Deuteronomy that the Israelites would eventually defeat Amalek and blot out his name, I believe that Gen. 3:15 is speaking of this future event, of Yeshua defeating the enemy of Israel–Amalek.
I believe Amalek is not only a person but a representation of the adversary and those who are in rebellion to the Father–His enemies. That though Amalek bruised the “heel”–the weak in Messiah–Messiah will ultimately crush the head of Amalek and blot out all wickedness and rebellion from the earth.
Please tell me this makes some kind of sense!
Blessings,
Sarah
Shalom, blessings and Thank you Rico for all your passionate love for Abba’s WORD!!
I want to share something exciting to me as i was studying Genesis 2:21. It takes me much longer to read each Torah portion because I study the Hebrew and the word pictures, but it is so worth it! The word picture and the Hebrew meaning for the words Deep Sleep, in verse 21 as Abba revealed to me is Blood Covenant!! it it Strong’s #8639 in the Hebrew. Look at the words in Hebrew and you see the first part of the word is tav followed by resh,(Tor)which corosponds to #8447 and # 8450.
#8450 refers to a bullock or ox and #8447 refers to a turtledove, both of which are used for sacrifice! The last part of the word is dalet,mem,hay.. what comes from the blood! Yeshua, the last Adam who restores us to the Father through His own blood as the living TORAH!!! I hope this blesses you as it has me and I want to bless my brother as he (you) bless us!! Shalom, shalom….Rica
Brother Noel,
Sorry to burst your bubble but the Messianic movement has been in the Philippine before 2010. I was there in Dec 2007 where I attended a Yeshiva/Conference and the featured speaker was Tim Hegg. I returned in March 2010 and celebrated Pesach with a congregation in Novaliches, QC. Tim Hegg was again in the Philippines early this year and even before 2007 there have been Torah teachers who came. One name I remember is Dr. John Fischer from Menorah Ministries in Florida. I know of congregations in U.P. Village, Quezon City, Novaliches, Tagaytay, Binangonan & Taytay, 2 congregations in Mandaluyong, Baguio, Benguet, San Pedro in Laguna, & Cebu. Spearheading the Messianic movement under the Asia Pacific Messianic Fellowship banner for quite a while now are Roger and Naomi Walkwitz from Florida and they spend a lot of time in the Philippines. In fact they started as Christian missionaries about fifty years ago. Here’s his website: http://www.walkwitz.com/Roger/. Here’s a site for The Messiah the Living Torah Congregation in Mandaluyong: http://messianicphilippines.bravehost.com/.
Also I’ve posted some photos of my visits at : https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/myphotos. If you would like to get in touch with me you can e-mail me at joe_gimeno@yahoo.com.

Thanks for the message and I am so happy that the teachings are a blessing to you.
Hi Rico,
Again ,Toda Raba Rico, I’ve really learned many things from your teachings.
Eversince I’ve watched your program and other GLC teachers on April 2009 you provoked me to study. From pentecostal background(1995) and now I’ve embraced the Hebraic roots and not attending to my Pentecostal church..I also shared your teachings to a Pentecostal Pastor on December 19,2010 (with 70 members) here in our country,Philippines in Olongapo City, the Pastor is now reformatting from Pentecostal to Hebraic. They started to learn the feast of the LORD,the name YESHUA,the two house, kosher food, etc
I think we are the first to embrace the Hebraic roots in the Philippines.
Please give us details on how to conduct weekly service as in synagouge.
We hope that you can visit the Philippines because most christians here are Pentecostal, Evangelicals, &Catholics.
Shalom,
Noel
Rico, thank you so much for all the work you put into this study. It was excellent! From Canada
Rogers,
This is a software program that you may find useful for pronunciation. http://www.jewishsoftware.com/default.asp?page=category&id=669

Shalom Rogers,
I personally use and would recommend the SCHOTTENSTEIN EDITION INTERLINEAR CHUMASH by Artscroll. This wonderful Chumash, which contains the Torah plus the other corresponding portions of the Writings and the Prophets for each Parsha, has the Hebrew lettering with vowel pointing and the English translation below each Hebrew word. It does not contain a pronunciation for each Hebrew word, but I would consider this a plus since most transliterated books I have found use the Ashkenazi pronunciation instead of the Sephardic (e.i. “shabbos” vs. “shabbat”).
My recommendation is to go to a free website like http://www.hebrew4christians.com and learn how to read the alef-bet and the vowel points. It doesn’t take that long to learn with a set of flash cards and once you can read the letters and vowel points, you can pronounce almost any word. Hebrew is not like English where there are all sorts of crazy rules on pronunciation.
I really like reading Torah in this manner because I end up recognizing Hebrew words that I already know but are translated into English slightly different than the way I knew. Also, There is a Schottenstein Edition interlinear Tehillim (Psalms) that I would recommend as well. Here is the website link for the Chumash: http://www.artscroll.com/Books/incch.html I’ll also email you with this info.
Shalom,
Ryan
