Don't Forget to
This Parashah covers vows made by women, the war against Midian, the return from the war, the disposition of the booty and captives, the conquest and division of the Transjordan area, and the oath made by the two and a half tribes settling in Transjordan.
This Portion is by far one of the most complex and hard to understand for us here in the western world. I did some reading on the Mishnah Tractates to get a first century understanding on the subject matter. Also, there are many verses that really talks about this, but because we do not live a in a Hebraic culture sometimes we miss the significance of Vows and Oaths, and the seriousness of the topic we are covering this Shabbat.
This page includes Torah Portions from multiple years covered by Wisdom in Torah. Each year we covered the Torah from a different perspective so you can explore each Parashah from a different perspective and focus.
- 2010 Portions: Focus on Messianic connections in the Parashah
- ANET Portions: Focus on the ancient Near Eastern cultural context of the Parashah
- Mitzvot Portions: Focus on explaining and exploring the commandments found in the Parashah (in progress)
- 2015 Portions: Revisiting the Parashah looking at the ancient cultural context more in depth with additional areas that have been researched
- Brit Portions: Focus on connecting the Brit Hadashah (New Testament) to the Parashah

It is no accident Torah Portion Matot Numbers 30:1-32:42 And Masei Together is posted now when it is not the Torah Portion for Sept. 8. I want to download the last two portions where you are wearing the black shirt. I can not decide which portions they are when I push the download and get the list. Thank you for posting this at this time as it is very timely. Please help me.
Mertha
I absolutely love your t-shirt. Would love to know where you got it from.

Just to note to thank you for being faithful to YAH’S word. May HE continue to give you
grace.
I really liked this teaching, but I’m left with a couple of questions.
How does this apply to underage sons?
How does this apply to single mothers?
Ditto with belyn!
Aloha,
Thank you very much for this teaching it was fantastic. Amazing how many dots connect to this Torah portion.
It might be worth checking out a video that Nehemia Gordan did. I believe its called the Hebrew Yeshuah vs the Greek Jesus. He uses Shem Tov’s Matisyahu to break down information. He points out that the community in the 1st century and before were swearing by the temple or Jerusalem or the alter etc. and then not keeping their promise. Many folks of that time and before (even to this day) know the verses Lev 19:12 / Deu 6:13 which proclaim that we swear by his name YHVH. What Nehemia points out folks practicing NOT swearing by YHVH’s name so they could break their promise. Yeshuah comes along (you will see this a bit more clearly in Shem Tov’s Matisyahu) and tells them not to swear by anything FALSELY…. ….let your yes be yes and your no be no. He is talking to Beit Yahudah whom is suppose to swear by his name. Some of them were being deceptive and it appears Yeshuah is correcting this. Of course I’m over simplifying the information so make sure you research it for your self. Very interesting study using the Hebrew text.
Here is the verse from the Hebrew Matisyahu 5:34-35
But I say to you, that you must not swear by anything falsely, not by heaven which is the throne of God, nor by the earth which is His footstool, nor by [Jerusalem] which is His city, nor by your head because you cannot make one hair white or black, But let your yes be yes and your no, no. Anything added to this is evil.
Anyhow the Land is Good see some of you guys this October in Israel!
Baruch HaShem YHVH!

I really enjoyed this teaching. It’s the first Torah teaching on your site that I’ve watched. It was an eye opener to learn the differences between vow and oath and also how the role of the father and husband relate to YHVH and Yeshua. This teaching really makes me think about my relationship with others (husband, our Heavenly Father, etc.) and pray about changes that I may need to make. Thank you for having dug deep on this subject.
What “Bible” do you use, Rico? Also, can you write down those 2 mishnah’s you mentioned on the vows and oaths?
Hey! Enjoyed seeing you guys last week! Wish we would have had time to visit…I am so interested in the first century conflicts with the two houses….hmmmm….two house conflicts….nothing new under the sun! 🙂 Can’t wait for Sukkot! Shabbat Shalom!
Rico May I call you to ask a question? I have a phone number on the temple sevice teaching I bought is it ok to call you between mon-fri? If your to bogged down I understand you have a crazy itinary…..

sure give me a call on late Wednesday night.
This is really excellent! It really filled in gaps for me in better understanding Elohiim’s order in the home. Thank you for your faithfulness in teaching the Word.
Brother, was it a vow / oath that Adam spoke in Gen 2:23 concerning Eve and later, her actions were held accountable to him when they were tempted?
keep up the good work!
Shalom
