Numbers 13:1-15:41

Joshua 2:1-24

Parashah Shalach Lecha

This Parashah covers the bad report given by the 12 spies sent into the land as well as laws concerning various offerings.

This week's Torah Portion deals with the huge mistake the spies committed by speaking badly about the Land of our King. We will cover the legality and reasons why YHVH was justified to bring punishment to Israel for speaking against the gift of the Land. We will discuss the real reason for the Tzitzit and what they meant in the Ancient Near East social status. These portions are full of legal context that we have never seeing or studied before.

We will also discuss the importance of action with our faith, the Anakim, and then will mainly focus on Numbers 15 and discussing the rights and responsibilities of the ger (stranger/alien) and how that applies to our lives today as believers in Messiah Yeshua.

This page includes Torah Portions from multiple years covered by Wisdom in Torah. Each year we covered the Torah from a different perspective so you can explore each Parashah from a different perspective and focus.

  • 2010 Portions: Focus on Messianic connections in the Parashah
  • ANET Portions: Focus on the ancient Near Eastern cultural context of the Parashah
  • Mitzvot Portions: Focus on explaining and exploring the commandments found in the Parashah (in progress)
  • 2015 Portions: Revisiting the Parashah looking at the ancient cultural context more in depth with additional areas that have been researched
  • Brit Portions: Focus on connecting the Brit Hadashah (New Testament) to the Parashah

  1. Rico, I saw you at St. Charles and Yah brought me even closer to Him through you. One question… Are those daisies on your ball cap? Cute! Thank you for laboring in the Word for us.

  2. Rico,

You mentioned that Moses had not asked the men to bring back fruit when he sent them to spy out the land. However…

Numbers 13:20 KJV And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.

    Shalom,

    Kate

  4. It was sooo good to see you my dear brother at our last conference in St. Charles – the teaching on AMIDAH touched me to the core and the reality of coming unto the King was layed heavily on my heart – so heavily that I could do nothing but kneel and weep in His Presence.

  5. I have just returned from my first rip to Yisrael. I went for shavout . The beauty of the place where He has placed His named can not be described by words, pictures do not do it justice. It was amazing . It was awesome to eat kosher anywhere you went without worry of hidden garbage.it was awesome to see 99.99 % of shops closed for shabbat. It was awesome to observe sunday as a work day .It was amazing that as soon as you left Yahrusalim the scenery change to blah ,blah, blah.Even though I went to places that obviously were inhabited by the enemy ,I felt safe. You either know and trust the El you serve or not. What you see on the news is NOT the Yisrael I saw.And I went everywhere, well everywhere I could in five days.I can not wait to return . One sad thing ,was to see that the enemy of Yisrael is allowed to live and act in Yisrael. But soon , yes soon that day will come when Yehovah will smite our enemies with he word of His mouth …..

  6. Rico , you tell us we should not be afraid of the giants – we should spy the Land out !!! Do not be afraid of the giants — I challenge you to spy out the heartland with your groups !! That will show you how beautiful this is the Land is, how rich this Land is , what heroes are settling in this Land —- they don’t feel like grashoppers , they will not be scared aways , you know why , because they are on top of the mountains – and they claim what is promised to them !!! No fear there …. looking forward to show you ….

  7. Shalom Rico,
It is so good to see YHWH moving in all the far corners in the earth. This is truly a blessing to see. Thank the family that offers hospitality to you in your travels may they be blessed abundantly.

  8. If I was an ancient Israelite that saw the Shekinah of YHVH, I’d use my 4 cornered garment to cover myself so that I would not be terrified of the glory of His presence. Maybe that’s where they got the idea of covering themselves when they prayed. That could have been a reason for YHVH to tell them to put tzitzit on each corner so that they can remember the 613 mitzvot before thinking of praying to make sure their prayer would not be an abomination unto YHVH.

  9. Shalom Rico,
Thank Brother for all you allow The Rauch to do through you!!! We pray “Deu 1:11 ‘May YHWH, the ELoHim of your fathers, increase you a thousand-fold more than you are and bless you, just as He has promised you!” over you and your Family!

With all do respect Rico, I believe the answer to your question, “Why would ABBA YHWH allow for the 12 spies to be sent out?”, is in the following passages:
Deuteronomy 1:21 ‘See, YHWH your ELoHim has placed the land before you; go up, take possession, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you. Do not fear or be dismayed.’

    Deuteronomy 1:26 “Yet you were not willing to go up, but rebelled against the command of the LORD your God;

    WHY!:

Numbers 14:3 “Why is the YHWH bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become plunder; would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”

Numbers 14:31 ‘Your children, however, whom you said would become a prey– I will bring them in, and they will know the land which you have rejected.

Psalm 106:24 Then they despised the pleasant land; They did not believe in His word!

Then they went to Mose in:
Deuteronomy 1:22 “Then all of you approached me and said, ‘Let us send men before us, that they may search out the land for us, and bring back to us word of the way by which we should go up and the cities which we shall enter.’

Deuteronomy 1:23 “The thing pleased me and I took twelve of your men, one man for each tribe

    I hope that helps.

  10. Someday I know YHVH will provide for me to go to the Eretz Kadesh.

Rico, regarding the N’fillim, I don’t rule out the idea that some might have survived the flood, but do you think it’s also possible that they procreated with daughters of men again after the flood? I’m kind of one of those conspiracy nuts; I believe that there are N’fillim procreating as we speak.

  11. you have blessed us once again Rico – thanks for more great insight!! Hadnt really thought about the fact that they didnt go up the mountain but went into the valley…….. and the fact that it parrallels so much with today’s evil reports about the land. You have given us much to ponder!
May Yahweh continue to bless & keep you. Shalom
